Staff
The Computer and Control Engineering (CCE) Division employs 35 persons (30 teachers, 5 technicians/adm.). Teaching staff consists of 11 professors (1 full, 2 associate, 8 assistant) and 19 Ph.D. students (assistants). The Division staff is divided internally into 3 research-teaching groups

  1.  Control Systems and Computer Engineering    (Prof. L.Trybus, ltrybus@prz.rzeszow.pl)
  2.  Control Fundamentals. Multiprocessor and Vision Systems    (Prof. M.Wysocki, mwysocki@prz.rzeszow.pl)
  3.  Logic Control and Artificial Intelligence    (Prof. J.Kluska, jacklu@prz.rzeszow.pl)

Labs
Research and teaching are supported by 6 laboratories (reasonably equipped)

  • Control and Automation
  • Technical Computer Science
  • Parallel Computing and Computer Vision
  • Microprocessor Controllers
  • Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Robotics

Research
11 research grants have been supported by the State Committee for Scientific Research during last several years

  • 32-bit multiprocessor control system for lab robot
  • Horizontal communication and redundancy in distributed control system
  • Transputer system for real-time advanced control tasks
  • Supervisory computer for distributed control systems
  • Graphical configuration of multifunction controllers
  • Active compensation of vibrations in light-weight robots
  • Fuzzy control and stability with applications
  • Real-time image processing for mobile robot guidance
  • Prototype of RF-537 adaptive controller
  • PSW-166 Multifunction Controller and WWT-166 Measurement Station with CAN communication
  • Visual system for hand gesture recognition
  • Round-off errors in floating-point control and filtering computations
  • Operator terminal, CAN/MODBUS converter, self-tuning controller and analog board
  • Vision-based support of man-machine interactions

Industrial applications
The CCE Division specializes in development of prototypes at instrument controllers which are later manufactured by local industry according to University licenses. The controllers developed so far are as follows:

  1. PSW-8/84/166 Multifunction Controller    -    3 succesive versions; configuration by function blocks
  2. SWC-535 Heat Systems Controller    -    2 loops: central heating, hot water
  3. RF-537 PID Controller    -    general purpose adaptive/self-tuning controller
  4. WWT-20/84/166 Measurement Station    -    12 channels; logic and sequence control

They are manufactured by two companies:
PSW/RF/WWT - ZPDA Ostrów Wielkopolski
SWC - Elmont Biała Podlaska

The Division also implemented 4 distributed control systems for the following plants:

  • Tunnel furnace for electrical insulators    -    ZPE ZAPEL Boguchwała
  • Water-treatment plant    -    ZUW Zwięczyca
  • Sulphur oiling facility    -    Siarkopol Grzybów
  • Automated testing of radiators    -    ITGiS Radom

TEMPUS programmes
The CCE Division participated in 2 TEMPUS programmes (EU):

  1. Information Technology for Control and Decision Support (1994-97) - Coordinator Warsaw University of Technology; partners - University of Birmingham (UK), Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby (D), INSA Lyon (F), FernUniveristaet Hagen (G).
  2. Integrated Control Systems and Intelligent Control (1997-99) - coordinator University of Mining and Metallurgy Cracow; partners - Universite de Nancy (F), INSA Lyon (F), Staffordshire University, Stafford (UK), Universite de Picardie, Amiens (F), FEEDBACK Ltd. (company UK).
